Tian Qiyi
Tian Qiyi is a genre-defying sibling duo blending traditional Chinese and Mongolian instrumentation with dub, post-punk and experimental groove. Built around erhur and morin khuur, their sound merges heritage with a raw, contemporary edge—driven by bass, percussion and live looping.
Their albums Red Mist (2023) and Songs for Workers (2025) both received Songlines “Top of the World” recognition, marking them as a standout act on the global circuit. Their music balances improvisation, texture and rhythm with a strong cultural voice, reimagining traditional forms through a modern lens.
Their international breakthrough came with a standout debut at Valkhof Festival (NL) in 2023. With upcoming performances at WOMAD and the Leeds Jazz Festival, Tian Qiyi are quickly building momentum across the UK and Europe.
Known for intense and unpredictable live sets, they are emerging as a distinctive new voice in contemporary global music.
